I didn’t set out to solve a housing shortage—I just wanted to build something of my own.
In 1989, fresh out of high school, I picked up my tools and got to work at the Lake of the Ozarks. I didn’t have a big plan or a blueprint for a company. What I had was a willingness to work hard, learn fast, and take pride in building something that would last. Day by day, project by project, I learned the craft from the ground up—literally.
Over time, I began to notice something that didn’t sit right with me. The people who made the community run—the teachers, service workers, tradespeople, and young families—were struggling to find homes they could actually afford. The very workforce that kept the area thriving was being priced out of living there.
That realization stuck with me.
So I shifted my focus. Instead of just building houses, I committed to building homes that people could realistically live in—homes that were practical, well-built, and within reach. Affordable doesn’t mean cutting corners. To me, it means being intentional: smart designs, efficient building, and a deep respect for the people who will walk through the front door every day.
That commitment became JayCo Build and Design—a family-owned company built on hard work, trust, and shared values. Over the years, I’ve passed my knowledge down to my sons, teaching them the same principles I learned back in 1989: do it right, take pride in your work, and never forget who you’re building for.
Today, we work side by side, continuing that tradition.
Decades later, that mission still drives everything we do. At JayCo Build and Design, we’ve seen the area grow and change, but one thing hasn’t: the need for quality, attainable housing. That’s where we come in.
This isn’t just construction—it’s about community. It’s about making sure the people who work here can live here. And it’s about doing the job right—together, as a family—with honesty, grit, and pride in every home we build..
